RE: House battery replacement suggestions

My current battery is a group 27 Interstate battery. It sounds like replacing my current battery with a couple group 27 batteries would probably work for my needs, but a couple 6V would be even better. Fortunately, my battery tray actually has room for 3 more batteries. I called to inquire about replacements and the 6V were about $70 more per battery than the 12V. Living in AZ, I've found that battery life is abysmal here and unless the 6V has a longer expected lifespan, I may go with two 12V in the interest of cost... IMO, for your purposes, if you don't get true deep cycle batteries then you are wasting your money. 6V golf cart batteries are made for deep cycling purposes. BTW, running a furnace fan draws a lot of power. If you are getting 3 hours out of your 12V group 27 battery now, you're going to get ~6 hours out of two of them. Is that what you want?

RE: 35 or 39, that is the question

Once you get past 32 feet it's not going to make much difference as far as limiting your camping choices, IMO. We have a 2006 Gulf Stream Ultra C5500 gasser and have been very satisfied with it.

RE: weight distribution

I go to a local moving company. They charge $6-8 or so. You just drive up on their scales, get out, go in & pay, and they give you a printout. 2006 Gulf Stream Super-C Model 8316 (Chevy C5500 gasser) Loaded for a trip, including full fuel, FW, & propane. Two adults. Front axle: 6,120 lbs Rear axle: 11,180 lbs Total: 17,300 lbs It probably weighs a bit more this year since we tend to accumulate stuff in it. We've got some margin against GVWR, though. UVW: 15,710 lbs GVWR: 19,500 lbs GCVWR: 27,000 lbs

RE: New Gulfstream Super C

Gulfstream makes airplanes. I don't think they are going to switch to Super C's any time soon. Now if you are talking about Gulf Stream, I do remember seeing something about that in the past week or two. I think it was in a magazine. I'll keep looking and check back... Edit: Well, duh! I just reread your post -- I think we read the same magazine. :o In this economy, they may have scrapped their plans. Magazine info is typically several months old due to publishing deadlines.

RE: Is a Diesel Super C for me?

I thought I just read a post that you blew up the motor ? That's what he said. But at the time of his post he did not know why it quit running. The above msg offering it was "Posted: 07/25/08 2:18pm" The other msg saying that he "just blew an engine" was "Posted: 07/24/08 11:17pm"

RE: Seneca - Dust in Cabin

Try a Fantastik fan on the "in" setting....positive pressure works great. This has solved all of my dusty pots and pans problems. If there is dust flying all around you, aren't you just going to be bringing dusty outside air INSIDE the coach?????:? That's why you want to use the blower fan in the cab. It brings air in from the front of the chassis before the wheels kick up the dust. Of course, if there's someone in front of you kicking up dust then there's not a lot you can do...

RE: Possible solution to smoking cigarettes

You can do it! I smoked a pack-and-a-half a day for 17 years. By the grace of God, I finally quit 19 years ago...

RE: Roadside Assistance

Actually, GM will cover the towing for the first 3 years (assuming they stay in business)... The Owner's Manual says that the roadside assistance is only during the "base warranty period". According to the Warranty Manual, that is 2 years, not 3 years. At least that's what it was for the 2005 chassis.

RE: Roadside Assistance

I've seen Coach-Net recommended more than any of the other services and that's what I have. I'm surprised your new coach did not come with a year of service...

RE: Part numbers for Bilstein shocks ?

The second picture (eye-to-eye) is what is used on the rear of the 2005 C-5500 chassis.

RE: Anyone Self-Installed Front Shocks on a Kodiak?

For me, it was very much worth the effort. Even with the cost of a couple of wrenches that I bought, I saved $150 or so on installation costs. Yes, it took some time, but I also gained some experience in how the rig is put together. :)

RE: Anyone Self-Installed Front Shocks on a Kodiak?

I did the rear shocks by myself and had to use a small auto scissors jack and a block of wood to compress the shock to align the holes for the lower bolt. I had help from my son-in-law for the front shocks. Those were pre-compressed and held by a heavy-duty tie band. I cut the band while he positioned the shock to align the posts while it expanded. On the second one, we weren't careful and the bushing fell off the shaft when we cut it, so we couldn't get it in before it expanded. We then put one end in and one of us compressed it while the other one aligned the other end for insertion.

RE: Part numbers for Bilstein shocks ?

I'm not familiar with the Koni's, but I did put Bilsteins on my Kodiak and it made a world of difference.

RE: Part numbers for Bilstein shocks ?

This document from the Bilstein website has the info you need. I'm not so sure about that. He's asking about a 2007. That sheet lists "2004-____". The part numbers shown are what I used on my 2005 chassis. I think there may have been a change around 2006-2007 to the rear shocks. In reviewing my old notes, I think the rear MAY have changed from BE5-C254-H0 to BE5-A434-M0, but you should check this with some other source.

RE: Had a fire yesterday

The recalls are on much older models. What brand is the fridge? You should have been given the paperwork on it from Jayco. We should all make note of this. "Much Older models"? Dometic extended the current recall and it includes current models. My 2007 is under the current recall as was my 2003 model as well. From Dometic: "Dometic recently expanded its recall on a population of two-door refrigerators. The original recall included some two-door refrigerators manufactured between April 1997 and May 2003. The recent expansion of this recall now includes the same two-door refrigerators, manufactured between June 2003 and September 2006." Read more at the Dometic recall web page.

RE: Anybody put a K&N filter on their Kodiak?

Somewhere along the way, I wrote in my notes that my 2005 8.1L Kodiak uses either of these air filters: AC Delco = A1518C GM = 25313349 I have not confirmed these numbers, however.

RE: 2007 C5500 endura fuse panel location?

If you are talking about 12V outlets in your coach body rather than those in the chassis cab, my guess would be they are powered by your coach battery and go through a fuse box in your coach, not the ones in the C5500. My 2006 Gulf Stream C5500 Ultra, which is very similar to their Endura, has a 12V fuse panel near floor-level below the fridge. It uses standard automotive fuses.

RE: 2008 Seneca 34SS Price Quote

Does any know the true markup on the Jayco motorhomes? Has anyone gotten better than 35%? 40%? I had a dealer tell me they would special order me a Jayco Greyhawk and they were making 8% on the deal. My discount was 32% off MSRP. So, unless there are other incentives for so many units ordered at one time or something, I would say that MSRP is dealer invocie plus 40%. Your math is off. Let's say for example purposes that the MSRP was $100,000. You paid $68,000. If the dealer made 8% over his cost when you paid that amount, then his cost was $62,560. So the $100,000 MSRP is a 60% markup from the "dealer invoice" of $62,560. Going the other way, the "dealer invoice" of $62,560 is 37% off of the MSRP of $100,000.

Jim Betts -- It would be good if you could post this in the Gulf Stream Service subforum over at www.gsowners.com http://www.gsowners.com/index.php
